THE KELSEY MONUMENT — Clinton, CT
Submitted by Douglas Kent Kelsey
The monument is located between 90 and 92 East Main Street in Clinton CT. It was erected by the Kelsey Kindred Organization.
This is part of the original grant of 1664. Decendants of William had lived on the property continuously, until just recently.
After the death of Harold Josiah Kelsey (3804) his widow, Mabel Blanche Morley Kelsey, had been instructed to turn this property to the Clinton Historical Society. The size of the plot is ten (10) feet on the street and fifty (50) feet deep.
Harold’s ancestors were of some fame. He was the eighth great-grandson of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins of Mayflower fame and was the 20th great-grandson of William the Conqueror and the 30th great-grandson of Charlemagne. These connections came through his grand-mother Nancy Burrows Kelsey wife of Joseph Josiah Kelsey (1167) and his mother Viola Vinetta Spencer Kelsey, wife of Reuben Henry West Kelsey (2139).
