Declaration of 1812During the war of 1812, New England (including Clinton) was blockaded by the British (Clinton was a big ship building town then) many people wanted to secede from the union and make a separate peace with England. Clinton had been raided by the British (led by Captain Thomas Hardy, Commander) approximately 14 times. However, at the Hartford Convention the following document (Declaration) was presented by the "loyal citizens of America".
