Regretfully many of our Senior Members have had to be dropped from membership for nonpayment of dues. One of the reasons for nonpayment, unfortunately, could be the demise of the member. In which case, I hope that family members will notify me and please, please send a copy of the newspaper article reporting same to me for my records, the Bulletin and to be recorded in The Kelsey Genealogy. These articles often give biographic details that will be added to their entry in the Genealogy. Item of Interest Indian River Cemetery
When that part of Killingworth, CT which is now Clinton, was settled in 1664, each original proprietor was given a burial lot in a plot of land bounded north and west by the Indian River meadows, east by the parsonage and south by the highway or country road. Among these lots were those of William Kelsey.
The second oldest stone in the cemetery is in the Kelsey lot. In 1940 the Kelsey Kindred voted to restore the old Kelsey lot. The first step was landscaping, involving several loads of loam and the placing of corner posts. The kindred committee decided to put headstones up for the early male Kelsey's buried there. These early Kelsey's were — William #1 and his sons; John #6 and Daniel #9. John's sons; John #34, Joseph #35, Stephen #39, Josiah #40. Daniel #9's son's; William #55, Daniel#56, Hezekiah #59 and Stephen #62.
Original stones are still standing for Daniel's #9 son Samuel #64 and his son Samuel #281, also for Daniel's #9 son Ezra #258. The Indian River Cemetery has been included as part of our bus tour for many of our reunions in the past. It always proves to be a fascination for one and all. The Kelsey Kindred Proudly Presents
